In 1885 Alexander Nikolajewski , archpriest from Tallinn, was announced to pastor in Vienna who made a construction of an orthodox cathedral a reality.

In the years 2006-2007, under conduction of Wolfgang Zehetner, civil engineer, architect and church constructer,  a general renovation of the façade and the interior took place. Special requirements of the building services turned up in this project.
